About us

Makma Art Gallery was created with the dream of presenting a broader view of Islamic Art and its influences beyond Eastern borders. The gallery showcases a meticulously curated collection of exceptional glass masterpieces, crafted in Europe during the 19th and 20th centuries, alongside other treasured objects reflecting Islamic influences. Its primary objective is to introduce these unique pieces to the United Arab Emirates and the GCC region.

Our story began with Alia, the founder of Makma Art Gallery, and her early years of family visits to emblematic antique markets throughout Europe, such as Les Puces in Paris or Portobello Market in London. Cherishing these memories and being raised in a family of art collectors, Alia was inspired to continue the family tradition by creating Makma Art Gallery.

Like the generations before her, Alia carries a passion and curiosity for art and aspires to share it with fellow art enthusiasts and collectors in the region.

OUR MISSION

Dialogue Between Cultures
Makma Art Gallery aims to push the dialogue between East and West by exploring artistic creations and exchanges between both worlds. Our collection – which includes Islamic art and Western artisanal pieces – highlights the similarities, differences and synergies between these two cultures.

A Link Between Past and Present
We want to renew society’s relationship with refined craftsmanship, shedding a light on beautifully crafted mediums – such as glass, textiles and ceramics - and bringing exceptional objects to modern audiences.

Present Glass in a New Light
The story of glass is a captivating narrative of art, history, culture, technology, science, craft, and design. This fascinating and often overlooked medium starts from sand and is transformed into delicate forms that can take on a myriad of colors. Each artisan adds their unique touch with individual techniques, making every creation a testament to the boundless possibilities of glass as an artistic medium.

"The fascination about glass? - It is one of the oldest materials mankind understood to shape. Imagine: You melt some sand and look at the result." Ted Muehling, Designer for Lobmeyr

Makma Art Gallery proudly presents a collection of art pieces crafted in 19th-century Europe,   showcasing exquisite Islamic-inspired designs and motifs. These masterpieces draw on a blend of techniques, including enameling, gilding and staining.
